It's official. The DeGraffenreid family is going on their very first Airstream adventure! While our lovely silver trailer is getting her very slow and tedious makeover (and is currently hanging from the ceiling of our shop), we have decided to rent an Airstream for a Spring Break Road Trip with our kids! (P.S. The kids have no idea, and we are going to try to hold out and surprise them the day we leave!)
For the first time, we have an entire week off for school for Spring Break. This got us thinking about what we could do for a family vacation. While researching some Airstream info, I ran across this 2005 Bambi rental listing from an RV dealership about 3 hours from us. Renting was something we had never even considered, but love the idea of! Within a week we had the reservations made!
Bryan and I slept in an Airstream for the first time in Eureka Springs as a fun anniversary trip in 2016. It was fabulous! And while Bryan is a trailer towing pro, we have never hauled an Airstream on a road trip. When we discussed the idea of renting this Airstream, we thought it would be a great way to get our feet wet and try out RV camping to make sure it was something that we would enjoy down the road. (Secretly, I hope it also motivates us to keep working hard on our project Airstream when we get back home.)
So, where are we going to go?
That is still a mystery. Our Spring Break is in late March so some locations that we are drawn to might have hazardous driving conditions still. (Colorado, Utah, etc.) My dream would be to hit at least one National Park, but I don't know that we can do that this trip. We could undoubtedly head South or maybe to the coast. We also had discussed going to New Mexico and Arizona. This weekend, Bryan and I hope to sit down with the map to settle on a rough itinerary and start a list of what we need to do to prepare! Watch for more updates in the coming weeks, and I'll let you in on the "Road Trip 2018" plan!
